BARTLESVILLE -- A Washington County judge on Thursday banished a Kansas woman from Bartlesville’s Wal-Mart Supercenter during a hearing on charges filed in a case in which she allegedly stole DVDs from the store and tried to run over employees in the parking lot with a truck.
Chrystal Pearl Blex, 28, of Independence, Kan., is charged in district court with shoplifting, assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of transporting a loaded firearm. Special Judge Kyra Williams set a $20,000 bond in the case and ordered Blex to stay away from the Bartlesville Wal-Mart store.
Blex was in the store on Green Country Road just before 2 p.m. Wednesday and picked up a large quantity of DVDs from the electronics department, a court affidavit stated. She took the DVDs through the store with Wal-Mart loss prevention employees in pursuit and traveled through the boy's department and around the store grabbing a razor knife off of a shelf at one point, the affidavit stated.
She took seven DVDs out of her purse in the toy department and began opening them, then took off for the garden center exit of the store, the affidavit stated. When Wal-Mart employees asked her to stop, Blex refused.
The employees followed Blex to a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in the parking lot attempting to get the license plate. Blex put the vehicle into reverse at full speed allegedly trying to hit one of the employees, who told police she was barely able to get out of the way without being run over, the affidavit stated.
Dewey police stopped the truck driven by Blex on U.S. 75. The truck had two loaded guns inside -- a Colt .25-caliber handgun and a Ruger .22-caliber rifle, the affidavit stated.
When questioned by police, Blex said she took the DVDs because she had “fallen on hard times,” the affidavit stated.
