A Southeast Kansas company is getting international attention for having eyes in the sky.
The company Ageagle is using unmanned aircraft to gather information for crops and now it's showing off prototypes of the high-tech tools. The company operates out of Neodeosha, Kansas, the aircraft weighs about 12 pounds with a wingspan of 5ft. Its unmanned and captures enhanced images at a bird's eye view.
"It determines which crops are the healthiest and the crops in need of help," said Owner of Ageagle Bret Chilcott.
During a mission the images are saved on memory cards, loaded into specialty software, and made into a high resolution photograph.
"If a farmer or grower decided in the areas of concern yellow or purple and for example wants to apply nitrogen, our system will create a geo coded map that will vary the rate the chemical applies and where applied," said Chilcott.
With a prototype in hand, the company is getting international attention from buyers and dealers.
"We've had a huge amount of interest nationwide on what we do here, we could see that as another step in Neodesha economic growth now is going to be in a form of aviation," said Business Developer Tom Nichol.
The city of Neodesha purchased a building for the company to begin production.
"People with a dream or an ideal maybe 1 or 2 employee we get them started, we nurture them along and encourage them any way we can, and hope they grow," said Neodesha Mayor Terry Harper.
With just 3 employees the company looks at expanding in the near future.
