2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
A sailboat without sails is fairly useless. It just drifts lazily, following the pattern of the waves beneath it. But with the sail erect, a sailboat can move against the current. The wind blows against the sail, providing the energy necessary to propel the vessel in a proper direction. A boat equipped with a sail can be said to be furnished unto a good work.
Likewise, a Christian that fails to utilize the Word of God is much like a sailboat without a sail. John 6:63 reads, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life". The Hebrew word for spirit is ruach, which means “wind, breath, air, spirit.” The Word is the wind of God. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing He wants us to do. He is the wind in our sails, moving us to unto all good works.
What good is a Christian without good works? Are you doing the the good things God wants you do? If you are not reading the Bible daily, you may not be properly equipped to do those good things He wants you to do.
Reading the Bible is not an option. It is a necessity.
