The first "WWE Monday Night Raw" after Wrestlemania always presents a big sign of what will come in the next year of WWE programming. In 2011, The Rock showed up and challenged John Cena. In 2012, Brock Lesnar showed up and took out John Cena. In 2013, Ryback attacked John Cena. According to Wrestling Inc on April 11, that move was to set up a Cena vs. Ryback match, but that might not mean Ryback is turning bad.
At the end of "WWE Monday Night Raw," Ryback clotheslined Cena, lifted him up and hit the Shell Shock and then flipped the champion off before holding up the WWE Championship belt.
Following the show, Ryback took to Twitter and explained that he will run through anyone who doubts him. He called himself a "highly evolved machine" and then said there is no right or wrong and no good or bad. He finished with his quote: Feeding Time.
From the sound of it, Ryback will play the role of a tweener, which is a wrestler who is not a good or bad guy, but someone who is simply out to get what he wants. The best example of that is Stone Cold Steve Austin, but CM Punk also played the role well before the WWE turned him into a true villain.
Taking Ryback in this direction is interesting because his heat had died down since he suffered a few big-time PPV losses, including losing to Mark Henry at Wrestlemania 29. This could be the shot in the arm that his character needs heading into the new WWE year.
