The council extended their moratoriums on collective gardens and marijuana processing, producing, and retailing for another six months. Coffeyville City Commissioner Marcus Kastler asked what would happen if they did not extend these moratoriums, and City Attorney Paul Kritz said that the city’s zoning would not be prepared with only the State’s buffer zones from schools and parks.
Kritz also said the Kansas State Police has its concerns about the federal government cracking down on the state and all who have gone along with I-420.
None of the Marijuana related items passed unanimously as Kastler voted NO on all three and Commissioner Chris Williams also voted NO on both of the moratoriums. Commissioner Don Edwards voted NO on one and recused himself from another because he has a vested interest in the future of the law with an application in with the Kansas State Liquor Control Board.
A public hearing will be scheduled within the city to discuss a ban on all marijuana business until it become legal federally.
